Competition Results

Five figure skaters, three girls and two boys, in their competition outfits and skates, posing with their medals on a podium, flanked by their coaches, one male and one female

Competition results are usually posted about a half an hour after the completion of an event. For events using IJS, each skater gets a numerical score which determines their placement. For 6.0 events, the result sheet shows both the final position of each skater as well as the position each judge gave the skater. So, the skater whose final position is one comes in first, two comes in second, etc. Check the Judging page for a more detailed explanation of how judging works.

Usually the top three skaters (sometimes top four) in each event will receive a medal. The rest of the skaters usually receive a ribbon. The competition hosts will hold award ceremonies periodically throughout the day as competition results become available. The competition announcement should include details as to how and where these ceremonies will take place. Clubs will often take official pictures during these ceremonies. If the skater earned a medal, they should keep their skates and competition outfit on for the pictures.
