SCMIA is closed for maintenance during July. The goal is for all maintenance to be completed by the end of the month. Keep an eye out here, on our Facebook page, and on the SCMIA Facebook page for announcements about re-opening.

Summer Luau – Saturday, July 19, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Don’t forget! CFSC is hosting a summer luau at the Little Creek Pool for some fun in not-frozen water while our frozen-water home is getting some much-needed maintenance. Join us for an evening of friends and fun while we enjoy some swimming and snacks! Members and non-swimmers are free, and additional family members are $2 per person. Please RSVP if you plan to attend and bring an appetizer or dessert to share.

Summer Skating Camps

The Goggin Ice Center at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio hosts a figure skating camp every summer that is very popular with our skaters. This year’s camp is Sunday, July 13 through Thursday, July 17. The camp is open to skaters aged 7-17 who have passed the pre-preliminary skating skills test. Skaters participate in both on-ice and off-ice group classes, dance classes and classroom sessions on topics like goal setting and competition prep. In addition, skaters have the opportunity to sign up for private lessons. We have several skaters attending this year including Kinzleigh C., Lillian J., Lily K., Emily M., Johie S., and Sarah S. Have a great time, ladies!!

Get more information about the camp at the Maimi University Figure Skating School. If your skater is interested in going next year, start looking for information early as registration usually opens in January, and the camp fills up quickly.

Congratulations!!

Emily M. attended Skate Dallas in Allen, TX the first weekend in June. She had a great weekend, earning silver in Excel Novice Women which qualifies her to attend the Excel National Final later this month. Congratulations, Emily!!

Lily K. and Emily M. also attended the Kathy Slack Troy Summer Competition in Troy, OH. Both had a great weekend earning nothing but gold! Lily brought home gold in both Open Juvenile Women Short Program and Excel Juvenile Plus Girls, while Emily landed on top in both Novice Women Short Program and Excel Junior Women. Fantastic job, ladies!

We’ve also had quite a few members pass skating tests. Congratulations to

• Sara Alasttal for passing her Adult 21+ pre-bronze skating skills test with honors
• Avery A. for passing her pre-juvenile skating skills test
• Kinzleigh C. for passing her novice solo free dance test
• Sophia N. for passing her pre-preliminary skating skills test with honors
