Collegiate Skating

A skater’s journey does not need to end when they graduate from high school. Many of our skaters have participated in figure skating at the collegiate level. Check out the List of Collegiate Teams if your skater is interested in finding a college with skating opportunities.

Collegiate skaters have three options for participation: Intercollegiate competitions, U.S. Collegiate Championships and Invitational, and Synchronized Skating.

Intercollegiate Competitions

Intercollegiate competitions are team oriented and offer events in both singles and ice dance. The season runs from October through March and includes two or three competitions in each of the four nationwide conferences (Pacific Coast, Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast). The season culminates with the National Intercollegiate Final which brings collegiate skaters from across the country together. High placing skaters have the opportunity to earn scholarships.

U.S. Collegiate Championships and Invitational

The U.S. Collegiate Championships is a qualifying event held every summer for junior and senior level singles skaters. The U.S. Collegiate Invitational is a non-qualifying event co-hosted with the Championships for all levels of skaters competing in singles or ice dance events.

Collegiate Synchronized Skating

Collegiate synchronized skating teams are placed into one of two categories: collegiate synchronized skating or open collegiate synchronized skating.

Collegiate synchronized skating teams consist of twelve to twenty full-time students, all of whom must have passed the U.S. Figure Skating bronze skating skills test. These teams may compete at qualifying competitions and have the opportunity to qualify to participate at the collegiate level at the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.

Open collegiate synchronized skating teams consist of eight to twenty full-time students and have no test level requirement. These teams are eligible to compete at sectional championships but are not able to participate in the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.
